Date: 29 July 2017
As part of our continuous efforts to provide an all-rounded and holistic dance training experience, we have invited Dr Teoh Chin Sim, Senior Consultant and Director of the Sports Medicine Centre at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, to present a seminar titled Nutrition For Athletes.
“A good diet alone won’t make an average athlete (dancer) elite, but a poor diet will make an elite athlete (dancer) average.” – Dr Teoh Chin Sim
We are what we eat and a dancer is no different. For many Singaporeans, life revolves around meals and the daily diet and calories can become a preoccupation with performing artists. What are the pitfalls and potential hazards of poor nutritional habits? How can we eat better to optimize dance in practice and performance? What healthy selections do we have when eating out, and what can we do in preparation at home?
Come and find out more about diet and dance!
This complimentary seminar is open to SBA students (Grade 4 and above) and their parents. Limited seats are available and are accorded on a first-come-first-served basis.
To sign up or find out more, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 6337 9125.
Please note that there is no Intermediate class on that day. Affected students will be notified on the replacement lesson at a later date.
Dr Teoh Chin Sim – Biography
Dr Teoh Chin Sim is a Senior Consultant and Director of the Sports Medicine Centre at Khoo Teck Puat Hospital, and visiting sports physician at Thomson Medical Centre and the Singapore Sports Institute. The main areas of focus in her practice are exercise and musculoskeletal medicine. A qualified acupuncturist, she has a keen interest in the management of chronic pain, and sports nutrition supplementation to optimise health and performance.
Dr Teoh first became acquainted with the dietary needs and practices of those in the performing arts while pursuing her Master of Sports Science in USA. As fortune would have it when she returned in 1994, she began attending to dance students from the LASALLE-SIA College of the Arts as well as artists from the Singapore Dance Theatre. Today, she continues to provide medical advice and treatment to professional dancers, dance teachers and students alike.
Additionally in the past 25 years, Dr Teoh has been attending team physician to Singapore’s elite athletes at the ASEAN Schools, ASEAN Para, South East Asian, Asian, Commonwealth and Paralympic Games. Her most recent appointment is as Chief Medical Officer of Team Singapore to the 2017 SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur.
In her past time, Dr Teoh runs to keep fit and scuba dives for leisure, slowing down from her days of track and field, squash and marathons. A little known fact is that she was also enrolled in ballet school as a child!
