Frequently Asked Questions

Home / Frequently Asked Questions
How do I register my child for classes?

Parents who wish to enrol their children at SBA are welcome to contact our office at 63379125 or email us at enquiries@sba.com.sg for more information on our placement classes. Each student will be assessed in a placement class prior to acceptance.

If I want to talk to my child’s teacher, when is the best time to do so?

We are always happy to discuss your child’s progress. However, as time is limited between classes, kindly contact the Administrator at 63379125 or email us at enquiries@sba.com.sg to arrange a discussion with the respective teacher at a convenient time.

Can a student make up for a missed class?

We are unable to provide replacement lessons as our classes are painstakingly planned to ensure each and every child gets the maximum attention from their respective teachers. Students who will be missing classes for a longer period of time may consult the respective teachers and Administrator for further advice on a case-by-case basis.

What performance opportunitites are there for students?

A school concert will be staged once every two years and alternates with the RAD examinations. The school also organizes a Fun Workshop (mid-year) and a Dance Masterclass Series (end of year) annually which culminates in a performance by the participants.

When do students start taking examinations?

RAD ballet exams are held in April. Examinations are conducted at the Primary level upwards.

Where are the examinations conducted?

Examinations are conducted at the SBA studios.

What can a student expect from the examination process?

Ballet examinations motivate and reward students of all levels. RAD exams focus on creativity and musicality, with the graded system providing opportunities to progress and achieve. All students who pass an examination receive a certificate of achievement as well as a breakdown of their results.

What are the Administration opening hours?
Monday to Friday: 10.30 am – 6.30 pm
Saturday: 10.00 am – 1.00 pm
Closed on Sundays & Public Holidays
Where can I drop off and pick up my child?

You may drop off and pick up your child at the building entrance at street level either at Waterloo Street or the side lane of Queen Street. For the younger children, it would be preferable to park and walk them to or from our school premises. Please drop off and pick up your child on time. If you are running late in picking up your child, you may contact the admin staff when the office is still open, for assistance to keep an eye on your child until you arrive.

When dropping my child off for class, where can I park?
There are a few car parks close by:
      • Waterloo Centre, Blk 261/262/264 Waterloo Street
      • Church of Saint Peter & Paul (next to our building)
      • NTUC Income Centre
      • Hotel Royal Queens
Parents are advised not to park along the double yellow line on the side lane of Queen Street.
Would a student be asked to repeat a level?

Yes, a student may be asked to repeat a year at a higher level if they are not ready to advance to the next grade. Each student advances at a different pace since she/he develops physically at different times. Though this may be disappointing initially, the extra year will eventually help the student to develop additional strength and confidence.

At SBA, we do not want to close an eye and let a student slide in their progress. You have entrusted your child to the Academy, with full confidence in our serious and excellent training. We take each student’s individual development into consideration and do not consider repeating a year as a failure. There are students who need time to develop the necessary focus and concentration. They should move slowly through the syllabus, as we are in fact also dealing with the physical body and it is best to take time to advance at a suitable pace so as to prevent any injuries to any part of the body.

Is there a participation fee for the school concert?

Although tickets are charged for the main school concert, the proceeds are insufficient to cover the high theatre and production costs of a large-scale performance. There are also costs for additional faculty hours for rehearsals and performances. A participation fee (amount depending on the scale of the production) is therefore necessary to defray the total costs.
