Welcome to Singapore Ballet Academy
It is with great pleasure that SINGAPORE BALLET ACADEMY welcomes HAN KEE JUAN to the Academy as its Principal with effect from August 2016.
Leading Singapore in ballet education and training, the Singapore Ballet Academy is Singapore’s oldest ballet academy. Since our establishment more than 55 years ago, we have been providing dancers opportunities to take their passion a step – or many steps – further. We aim to inspire a new generation of dancers who will go on to take the stage by storm.
As Singapore’s premiere centre for comprehensive ballet and dance training, the Academy aspires to be at the forefront of professional dance training. Our talented students have succeeded to become professional dancers not only in Singapore’s national dance theatre, the Singapore Dance Theatre, but also around the world.
What People Say about the Academy
At the Singapore Ballet Academy, we are commited to providing the best training at all levels through structured curriciulum. We believe in inspiring dancers through education and beyond so that they will take their art form to the highest level of performance – the professional stage.
When we came together to form the Academy (SBA) all those years ago, we knew in our hearts that there was, most certainly, true dancing talent in Singapore …. Time has proven that we were right.
Frances Poh and Vernon Martinus
Co-Founders, Singapore Ballet AcademyHow time flies! It seems only like yesterday that the Singapore Ballet Academy celebrated its 25th anniversary when I sent my congratulatory message. Today 50 years on, the Academy is still going strong, marked with many milestones and achievements.
I am sure the Academy (SBA) will continue to inspire and nurture students in pursuing their artistic dreams.
Soonee Goh
Co-Founder, Singapore Ballet AcademyI am proud to be a part of SBA. When I think back to the occasions when we performed three times a year, it brings back memories of the most pleasurable moments of my life. Besides, the comradeship amongst the dancers was also so special. I am confident SBA will continue to grow and nurture future dancers.
Alice Lee, Alumnus (1950/1960s)
The fond memories of hours, days and years spent at Lloyd Road studio will never be forgotten. You have instilled the spirit of dance into my soul. I thank you, and you will remain close to my heart forever.
Fu Raw Yueh, Alumnus (1960/1970s)
Through the years, SBA has built a strong reputation as Singapore’s leading dance academy with her excellent quality in training and care for her students. Being able to sustain in achieving these despite the changing times is no easy feat. I am proud to be able to associate myself with her history and cultural heritage.
Lim Yok Hung, Alumnus (1970/1980s)
As a young student dancer, dance at SBA provided me with a form of escapism. It grew to become my voice, my outlet which developed into my passion. For 11 years, Dance became a permanent fixture of my life as professional dancer (at Singapore Dance Theatre). Life comes to a full circle. And now, off-stage I have the pleasure of imparting my experience and knowledge to a hungry new generation.
Thank you, SBA. You have blessed me with many precious memories. For that, I am eternally grateful.
Cheah Mei Sing, Alumnus (1980/1990s)
Head, Faculty of Dance, SOTAThroughout my years at SBA I have been very fortunate to meet aspiring and nurturing teachers who, not only provided me with good training but also showed so much patience as they allowed me to develop as a dancer artistically during the later part of my training.
Elaine Heng, Alumnus (1990/2000s)
Graduate of Rambert School of Dance. Dancer, Singapore Dance TheatreFor 4 years, Singapore Ballet Academy was my second home and family. There I received the caring training I needed to reach greater heights.
Christina Chan, Almnus (1990/2000s)
Graduate of Boston Conservatory. Dancer/ChoreographerSBA provides a wonderful atmosphere where I can express myself through my dancing. SBA is my second home where firm friendships are forged, and where I can share the beauty and joy of dancing with others.
Dancing is about dedication, humility and sacrifices. It is hard work. But it provides me with a platform to build up my self-confidence. The commitment of the teachers and students makes our learning experience even more enjoyable and satisfying. The SBA experience has indeed been truly enriching and most fulfilling.
Kwok Min Yi, Almnus (2008)

Dancer, Singapore Dance TheatreI am very grateful to Frances Poh for inviting me to teach at the Frances School of Dancing, which later joined forces with the Malaya School of Ballet to form the Singapore Ballet Academy. My Singapore stay has been the best part of my life and I am pleased that I had the opportunity to teach at the Singapore Ballet Academy and to meet so many dear friends.
