Thousands of young and tentative amateurs have passed through the hallowed hallways of the Academy, only to turn into elegant and confident individuals who are new aficionados of the art of ballet.

When we came together to form the Academy (SBA) all those years ago, we knew in our hearts that there was, most certainly, true dancing talent in Singapore ….  Time has proven that we were right.

How time flies! It seems only like yesterday that the Singapore Ballet Academy celebrated its 25^th anniversary when I sent my congratulatory message. Today 50 years on, the Academy is still going strong, marked with many milestones and achievements.

I am sure the Academy (SBA) will continue to inspire and nurture students in pursuing their artistic dreams.

I am proud to be a part of SBA. When I think back to the occasions when we performed three times a year, it brings back memories of the most pleasurable moments of my life. Besides, the comradeship amongst the dancers was also so special. I am confident SBA will continue to grow and nurture future dancers.

The fond memories of hours, days and years spent at Lloyd Road studio will never be forgotten. You have instilled the spirit of dance into my soul. I thank you, and you will remain close to my heart forever.

Through the years, SBA has built a strong reputation as Singapore’s leading dance academy with her excellent quality in training and care for her students. Being able to sustain in achieving these despite the changing times is no easy feat. I am proud to be able to associate myself with her history and cultural heritage.

As a young student dancer, dance at SBA provided me with a form of escapism. It grew to become my voice, my outlet which developed into my passion. For 11 years, Dance became a permanent fixture of my life as professional dancer (at Singapore Dance Theatre). Life comes to a full circle. And now, off-stage I have the pleasure of imparting my experience and knowledge to a hungry new generation.

Thank you, SBA. You have blessed me with many precious memories. For that, I am eternally grateful.

Throughout my years at SBA I have been very fortunate to meet aspiring and nurturing teachers who, not only provided me with good training but also showed so much patience as they allowed me to develop as a dancer artistically during the later part of my training.

For 4 years, Singapore Ballet Academy was my second home and family. There I received the caring training I needed to reach greater heights.

SBA provides a wonderful atmosphere where I can express myself through my dancing. SBA is my second home where firm friendships are forged, and where I can share the beauty and joy of dancing with others.

Dancing is about dedication, humility and sacrifices. It is hard work. But it provides me with a platform to build up my self-confidence. The commitment of the teachers and students makes our learning experience even more enjoyable and satisfying. The SBA experience has indeed been truly enriching and most fulfilling.

I am very grateful to Frances Poh for inviting me to teach at the Frances School of Dancing, which later joined forces with the Malaya School of Ballet to form the Singapore Ballet Academy. My Singapore stay has been the best part of my life and I am pleased that I had the opportunity to teach at the Singapore Ballet Academy and to meet so many dear friends. Congratulations to Soo Khim and members of the staff for bringing the Academy to its present day and my very sincere wishes for more wonderful years to follow.

Since its founding, the Singapore Ballet Academy has provided tremendous training and support to students offering artistic opportunities that have become the cornerstone within the community.
